Performative Self Care

Performative Self Care

You might remember recently we talked about how we were Burnout Queens and self care felt so performative.

Well let us tell you what happened when we finally submitted and realised we were absolutely done in 🫠

We then started to internally rebel against the whole ‘beauty’ thing

I particularly got super triggered any time I had to attend anything that I needed to look presentable for

I would get super antsy and snappy with everyone and think it was because I really didn’t want to go

I assumed all the burn out had left me socially exhausted too

That the triggers were showing that I didn’t want to see people

But as time went on I realised…

I was so done with all the photographs, the need to have eyelashes that were curly and hair that was just so 💁‍♀️

I wanted to live my Fungus the Bogeyman era 🧌

And all tasks that were about improving how I looked felt abrasive and really annoying

(I still did them, but I was annoyed about it 😂)

Now here’s where things get tricky…

We owned a skincare brand 🫣😅

And we LOVED our skincare!

It was the light in our lives that felt good and supportive and non performative

But the stories we’re told about skincare are all

‘Ew - you’re OLD LOOKING - be younger looking’
‘Ew - are you tired?! Don’t let anyone know about it…’

And so there was this cognitive dissonance of us thinking…

We don’t want to be that for people!

That voice that says ‘you’re not good enough - be better!’

‘Always be shiny - even when you feel like crap!’

But on the other hand we know our products are properly incredible

And we don’t want anyone to ever not have access to them or not know that they exist

Because you are good enough - and you deserve products that match that

And you are knackered - and we have products that can help support you when you’re completely wrung out

Not to just look better

But to be fundamentally cared for in a way that (spoiler alert) also makes you glow ✨

So we’ve come out the other side knowing that all those bullsh*t reasons to make ourselves look a certain way are still bullsh*t 😂

But that doesn’t mean we don’t deserve the absolute best for ourselves every 👏single👏day👏

Not for anyone else

Not for the performance

For us

For you

THAT is the motivation we want to go forward with

It’s a new era of self love - and we are fully committed ♥️
