We use a natural soy wax in all of our candles and we always have. We never add colour and pour by hand. But why are these things so important?
Soy wax can often be more expensive to buy and is more tricky to handle than paraffin wax, but we believe the benefits far outweigh the hard work it takes to make them!
The first thing that's important to us is that sooty blackness that you find around the top of glass container candles made of paraffin. That black residue is formed when petroleum based products are burned (like exhaust fume from your car). Soy wax contains no petroleum and so you don't need to worry about black sooty residue - believe us, we've lived in rented flats and it does not wash off walls easily. Goodbye security deposit!
No organic compound can be burned without the production of some soot. It's a science thing ;) and is to do with incomplete combustion. Want to know how to keep it to an absolute minimum with a soy candle? Keep your wick trimmed to about 1/4 of an inch. Your candle will last much longer and won't be smokey!
When we light a candle we think of creating a relaxing environment & a delicious scent, we don't want to have to worry about the toxic particles released by a paraffin candle. Wait, what?! Toxic chemicals?! Yup. Paraffin is leftover when petrol is refined, it's originated from fossil fuels. You wouldn't allow a car to idle in your living room, so think carefully about the candles you burn.
Next up we have the biodegradable nature of soy candles. We all know how important it is to consider our consumption and how we impact the environment. Soy wax is 100% biodegradable and is derived from natural grown sources. It burns slower, cleaner and with no toxic by products.
Soy wax is also a renewable resource that we can grow. We all know about how we shouldn't be using up all the planet's limited resources. Go soy instead!
